Freedom Is A Practice Not A Right

We on this continent should never forget that men first crossed the Atlantic not to find soil for their ploughs but to secure liberty for their souls. ~Robert J. McCracken

First, I want to say I am eternally grateful for the men and women who left behind all they knew and took risks, even sacrificed their lives so that we can have freedom in this country.

And…we are not yet totally free.

I invite you to let down your preconceived notions about what freedom is and what it isn’t and really explore whether or not you are truly free, only then will you be aligned for freedom.

I know for myself I am more free than I used to be, AND it’s a continual practice… 😉

Freedom as your birthright is only the first step. We are blessed in this country to have freedoms that many people don’t have in other parts of the world, and yet it doesn’t mean that they are inherently less free than we are in America. As Viktor Frankl showed in a holocaust camp, he was more free than his captors. Freedom is a choice, a decision we make in our minds. Viktor made that choice and because he did, he was free no matter what atrocities he experienced.

You have that choice too. We ALL do.

The situation or environment does not define freedom. Our minds define freedom.

Our actions put into practice freedom.

That all starts with a decision to feel free.

To act free.

To BE free.

“We are always choosing” you may be thinking to yourself. Yes, as a matter of fact we are. But most of the time folks choose from a subconscious place. From a place of hurt, or anger, or shame, or guilt, or some other negative emotion or belief. They make choices by default, or because everyone else is doing it, or because it’s a habit, not necessarily based on how they want to feel, or on what they truly desire.

How does this abdication of conscious choice show up? Let’s look at the 5 Key Elements of the Aligndset™ Map and see:

Body: Eating to feel (or not feel); not taking care of yourself; living or working in an environment that is toxic

Mind: Allowing your mind to be overrun by the little voices and not stopping or choosing to think other more empowering thoughts

Emotions: Overwhelmed or overflowing with (typically negative) emotions or the opposite – not allowing yourself to feel anything (underflowing with emotions). Either way, you are not free because emotions are ruling the show instead of informing you.

Spirit: Being in alignment with something larger than yourself that allows you to know, believe, receive and perceive something larger and more grand, more expansive than your human egoic perspective.

Energy: Is it freed up, is it flowing in your home, energy, relationships, body? Do you have the energy to do the things that you want to do? What kind of energy are you bringing to your interactions with others?

When you don’t practice freedom through conscious choice, you feel stuck, unhealthy, sluggish, overwhelmed, out-of-sync, and like a victim to the circumstances of your life.

Here’s the good news. Actually the best news you’ll ever hear, and if you own this and practice it you will be unstoppable:

You’re free, RIGHT NOW, in this very instant, to choose to be free.

Practice that.

Love, Kris
