One of my favorite traditions is the Burning Bowl Ceremony. You can find one a the Unity church near you, but just in case you’re no where near a formal burning bowl celebration, and you don’t have a fireplace you can try the following at home. This is a “smokeless fire” (however when you burn the paper there will be smoke so watch that you don’t set off your fire alarm!)
Please, use good sense and make sure you are in a well-ventilated area 😉
You will need:
- Epsom Salt (at least 1 cup)
- Rubbing Alcohol
- Tin foil
- A largepot
- A cookie sheet
- Candle (optional)
- Matches or lighter
- Lightweight paper
- Pencil/pen
- A cookie sheet
Line the pot with tinfoil and place it on the cookie sheet. Put 1 cup of Epsom salt into the pot and pour rubbing alcohol over the top until the Epsom salt is fully covered. Write on the sheet of paper everything you wish to release or let go of from the previous year(s). Rip the paper in half and crumple. (You just don’t want a big wad of paper-it’s harder to burn.)
You may wish to light a candle and say some words of invocation or that are special to you. Or not. Do what feels right and good to you.
When you’re ready to burn your paper, light the rubbing alcohol on fire and slowly add your crumpled paper(s). Ooh and Aah over the pretty colors made by the Epsom salt, alcohol, and paper…really let that old stuff go!
When you’re done, in the space you just created, write down or create your vision (or vision board) for 2014. As Danielle LaPorte would say: “What do you Desire?” or “What are your core desired feelings?” Put those down in your journal or on another fresh piece of paper. Keep this one in a safe place so you can pull it out next New Year’s Eve and see what you manifested over the year. 🙂
